The market is the best public projection there is

Betting lines are the one forecast with money enforcing its accuracy. That makes them a genuinely useful fantasy input, not because you should bet, but because a total and a spread together describe the game your players are about to be in more reliably than most weekly previews do.

The number worth deriving is the implied team total: roughly half the game total, adjusted by the spread. A team implied to score in the high twenties supports startable fantasy options across the board; a team implied for seventeen usually supports one, and picking which one is a guess.

Reading the market for lineup decisions

• Implied team total: the single most useful derived number. Compute it before you look at any matchup rating.
• Spread sets the script: a heavy favourite runs late and protects a lead; a heavy underdog throws. That decides which of its players are startable more than talent does.
• Line movement is information: a total that has moved several points since opening usually reflects news (an injury, or a forecast) that has not reached fantasy coverage yet.
• Props describe roles: a receiving-yardage line is the market's own projection for one player, which is a cleaner read on his expected role than a season average.
