Fantasy Football Guide & FAQ
Everything you need to know about fantasy football and SnapCount
๐ Getting Started
What is Fantasy Football?
A game where you draft NFL players to form a virtual team. Your team earns points based on real NFL player performance. Compete against other managers in your league each week.
How do I join a league?
Create or join a league on platforms like Sleeper, ESPN, or Yahoo. Private leagues are invite-only (get link from commissioner). Public leagues are open to anyone.
What positions do I need?
Typical lineup: 1 QB, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, 1 TE, 1 FLEX (RB/WR/TE), 1 K, 1 D/ST. Plus bench spots for backups.
When is the draft?
Most drafts occur in August before Week 1. Your commissioner sets the date/time. Snake drafts take 2-3 hours. Auction drafts take 3-4 hours.
๐ Terminology
PPR (Points Per Reception)
Scoring format where players earn 1 point per catch. Benefits pass-catching RBs (like Austin Ekeler) and high-volume receivers. Most popular scoring format.
ADP (Average Draft Position)
Where a player is typically drafted across thousands of drafts. If a player's ADP is 24, they usually go in round 2 of 12-team leagues. Use ADP to find value picks.
FLEX
A roster slot that accepts RB, WR, or TE. Start your highest-projected player regardless of position. Some leagues have Superflex (can start QB).
Waiver Wire
Pool of unowned players you can add to your roster. Waiver priority determines who gets contested players. FAAB leagues use blind bidding with fake dollars.
Handcuff
The backup RB who would take over if the starter gets hurt. Rostering your starter's handcuff protects your investment. Example: if you own CMC, roster his backup.
Floor vs Ceiling
Floor = worst-case points (safe). Ceiling = best-case points (upside). High floor players are consistent. High ceiling players are boom-or-bust.
Bust / Boom
Bust = player underperforms expectations (bad). Boom = player exceeds expectations (great). "Boom-or-bust" players are inconsistent week to week.
RB1 / WR1 / etc.
Position tiers. RB1 = top 12 RBs (starts in all leagues). RB2 = ranks 13-24. RB3 = flex-worthy. RB4+ = bench/handcuff.
๐ Scoring Systems
Standard Scoring
No bonus for catches. Favors volume rushers and TD-dependent players.
Half-PPR (0.5 PPR)
Most balanced format. Rewards catches without overvaluing them.
Full PPR
Most common format. Pass-catching RBs and slot receivers gain value.
Superflex / 2QB
Dramatically increases QB value. Start 2 QBs or use QB in flex spot.
TE Premium
TEs get bonus points per catch (usually 0.5-1 extra). Elevates elite TEs.
IDP (Individual Defensive Players)
Instead of team D/ST, you draft individual defenders (LB, DL, DB). Adds roster depth and strategy.
๐ฏ Strategy Tips
Draft Strategy: Zero RB
Load up on elite WRs/TEs early, take RBs later. Theory: RB injuries are common, WR production is more stable. Works better in PPR.
Draft Strategy: Hero RB
Take one elite RB in Round 1, then pivot to WRs. Your "hero" RB anchors the team while you stack receiver depth.
Draft Strategy: Robust RB
Take 2-3 RBs in first 4 rounds. RB scarcity means securing elite options early. Fill WR from deeper talent pool later.
Streaming
Don't draft K or D/ST early - stream weekly based on matchup. Pick up whoever faces the worst offense. Same can work for QB and TE.
Trade Windows
Buy low after bad games, sell high after big games. Best trade window is weeks 3-8 when trends emerge but not too late to pivot.
Bye Week Planning
Avoid stacking players with same bye week. Plan ahead - add fill-ins before bye weeks, not during when everyone is scrambling.
๐ League Types
Redraft (Season-Long)
Most common type. Draft fresh each year. No keeper/dynasty elements. Focus on current season production only.
Keeper League
Keep 1-5 players from last year (usually costs a draft pick). Adds strategy around late-round breakouts who become keeper value.
Dynasty
Keep entire roster year-over-year. Rookie drafts each year. Young players have premium value. Multi-year team building strategy.
Best Ball
No lineup setting - your best scorers automatically start each week. Draft-only, no waivers. Rewards drafting depth and upside.
DFS (Daily Fantasy)
Build a new lineup each week within salary cap. Compete for cash prizes on DraftKings, FanDuel, etc. Single-week contests.
Auction Draft
Instead of snake draft, bid on players with fake budget ($200 typical). Any player available to anyone. More skill-based than snake.
